The Immediate Stabilization System (ISS) is a novel approach that reinforces bone before screw placement to maximize purchase and prevent loosening which is a leading cause of spinal fusion failure as many patients undergoing spinal fusion are at risk, due to aging, poor bone quality, revisions, or deformity correction. The ISS uses ultrasound to rapidly melt, from the inside out, a hollow polymer cylinder that is placed into the vertebra. The liquefied polymer is pushed into the porous bone filling the space, followed by rapid re-hardening thus creating a denser and stronger receiving implant bed for any screw. Once placed, screw contact is maximized along the full screw body with immediate, load-bearing fixation without workflow disruption or cement-related risks.
